Mary Elaine's Memory

Mary Elaine Robinson Bailey was born on December 7, 1953 in the bustling city of Dayton, OH.  She grew up on S. Kilmer St.  She was a wife, mother, Educator, voter, devoted child of God, and the 9th of ten children (3 boys and 6 girls.)

Mary Graduated from Roosevelt High School In 1972. She went on to study Early Childhood Education at both Central State University and Wright State University receiving all A’s and B’s.  While in Dayton, Mary met and married James Bailey.  They did not stay married, however, Mary and James stayed connected and in touch ever since.

Mary was employed at Inland, where she worked for General Motors.  She enjoyed her time there, as she would always tell stories about how many fun and good people she met there.

At an early age, Mary accepted Christ into her life, writing many stories of her faith and encouragement side by side with some of her favorite bible scriptures.  Mary frequently donated to the worthy causes for the disabled per the many thank you cards she received from many charities.  Mary was also an advocate for the disabled as she served on the Board of Trustees for PLACES Inc.

Some of Mary’s loves in life were family, music, and the beach.  She wrote in her idea journals that her most cherished memory was being at the beach in North Carolina with her family, laughing and singing.  She also wrote that three things which she loved most in the world were her “...Two sons and one daughter.” A song she would sing her youngest son to sleep with was...

“Under the Boardwalk, down by the sea… yeah. On a blanket with my baby is where I’ll be.”

On Thursday, April 5, at the age of 58 Mary was called home.  She was preceded in death by her mother, Queen Esther, father, Amos Robinson, Aunt Mossie Bell, and brother William Robinson.

She leaves to cherish her memory, two sons, Shawn Robinson and Dexter Bailey (Keturah), one daughter, Barbara Bailey and her three grandchildren whom she was very proud of, Gabriel Bailey, Keagan Queen Bailey, and Lovely Angel Nalls.  She also leaves her two loving brothers, Raymond (Katrina) and Robert “Bobbie” Robinson (Betty), and her 6 sisters, Marian “Gene” Dominick (Melvin), Gwen Robinson, Nancy “Carol” Perry (David), Barbara Walker, Paulette Robinson, Doris Robinson; lifelong friend Shug, several very special friends who she constantly thanked God for, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Mary will always be remembered for her enthusiastic and optimistic outlook on life, as well as her honesty and straightforward approach to all she cared about.

She was a very loving mother whose heart and love will be cherished forever.
